"How do you afford your clothes?"
Okay so I made a promise to write about this topic a looong time ago, haha, but as we all know by now I’m a bit lazy and neglect my blog from time to time. It’s nothing I do on purpose I just don’t feel like I have anything that’s interesting enough to write about. ( ̄ー ̄)
Anyway, since I became interested in the Japanese fashion scene I’ve been asked many times questions such as; “How do you afford all your clothes?” or “How can you afford brand when it’s so expensive?”
Well, as we all know money does not grow on trees, (which sucks), the simple and boring answer is; Priorities. But before you read on, keep in mind that this is just my opinions, it’s totally alright if you disagree with my arguments. ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ Also, when I talk about money in this post, I refer to the money which you spend on things you want and so on, not the money you need to pay your rent with etc.
Okay so let me explain what I mean by priorities. A good example is from when I dressed in Lolita fashion many years ago, I was always a bit stunned by the fact that girls who complained about ”not affording” brand such as Angelic Pretty etc because it was “too damn expensive” always seemed to have the money to buy Bodyline instead? Okay I know, Bodyline is a bit cheaper and so on, but still… instead of buying those three BL dresses, you could have bought one AP item? Apparently it wasn’t important enough with brand in the end?

I’ve always been very clear about what I want to spend my money on, and when I’ve decided I save and work until I have enough to afford that item. It’s simple and it works. It might take some time before you’ll get there, but you will eventually.
Another example is when people say stuff like “Oh I want to go to Japan so bad, but I can’t afford it!” And then the next day you’ll see they post a new picture of their new tattoo on Facebook, or some other thing they’ve just spent a small fortune on. It’s all the same as before; it clearly wasn’t important enough to you. If you want something, it can be anything, clothes or just good grades in school it doesn’t matter, you’ve got to decide that this is your priority right now and work towards that goal. You can’t expect things to come for free or just happen, can you?
Also if you’re dressing in a style that’s inspired by Japan, that doesn’t mean that the clothes you wear has to come from Japan you know. You can easily find similar clothes or make them yourself and save like 50% of the price it would have cost you to buy that original item. Like the flower headbands I wear now and then, I was going to buy a headband from TOPSHOP at first but then I realized how easy it would be to make one myself. So instead of paying the 300 SEK which the ones from TOPSHOP cost, I bought material for about 50 SEK and made two different ones. Don’t underestimate homemade stuff guys! (´∇ノ`*)ノ
When you buy brand you’ll often pay for the name. I mean come on; all of us who likes and dresses in Japanese brands know that the quality often isn’t a bit better than the quality of, let’s say, H&M clothes (ofc with a few exceptions!). They’re probably even made in the same factory in China somewhere, and that’s just how it works!
So if the brand doesn’t mean the world to you, you might want to debate whether to actually buy that Glad News leather jacket for 34,000 yen or just buy an almost identical looking one from H&M for like 4000 yen. I’ve been thinking about doing an Expensive VS Less expensive outfit post soon, like I put together two similar looking outfits but with clothes of different price range, would you guys be interested in that? (`・ω・´)”
Lot's of love! ♡
